What’s the scope of the publishing industry in DC? I might be moving there soon from Philly (which sucks for a plethora of reasons, mostly personal). I don’t really want to move to New York anymore, and DC is looking to be my best bet. So what do they have there in terms of magazines, newspapers, websites, etc.? Thanks!

There are quite a few magazines
DC is really a political arena, but if you are interested in fashion and lifestyle magazines, DC has: Capitol File (a luxury fashion magazine), DC Modern Luxury, Girls’s Life (?) (which is in Baltimore), Washingtonian Magazine, Sister 2 Sister and I think DC Style Magazine is still up and running.
Don't forget . . .
National Geographic!
Poppy : )
If you’re interested in
If you’re interested in news and politics, DC’s a good option—publications with either offices or headquarters in the district include the New Republic, Washington Monthly, US News & World Report, Slate, Congressional Quarterly, the Hill, Roll Call, Washington Post, Smithsonian magazine, the Atlantic, and Foreign Policy
BNA
The Bureau of National Affairs is the largest employer of journalists in D.C. after CNN, I’ve been told. It’s a private company, not a government agency. No one’s heard of it because it publishes small circulation, very dry trade newsletters about federal regulation. (Sample newsletter title: The Construction Labor Report.) If you’re into poli sci and uninterested in glamor, that’s something to look into. In a totally different vein, I believe Atlantic magazine relocated to Washington.
I’m in DC, and although
