question about resume's and cover letters

When you email your resume and cover leter should you attach them as a seperate file or just paste them into the body of the email? Some people want them in the body but others don’t specify.

i have always written my

i have always written my cover letter in the body and attached the resume, and i currently intern at Conde, for what it’s worth. your cover letter should be brief and succinct enough for it to be easy to look at and read through quickly, so any editor should be able to glance over it no matter how busy, and save the email if they don’t want to. i guess it can’t hurt to attach, but it seems odd to me.

Conde Nast

I would listen to and trust what the Conde Nast editors said regarding this issue. I have spoken to an assistant at Conde Nast who told me the same thing. Since they are all incredibly busy, it makes sense to leave a brief message in the email telling them who you are and the position you are interested in, and to attach the cover letter and resume. That way, they can take note of it and come back to read the whole thing when they have the time.

I usually paste my cover

I usually paste my cover letter into the body of the e-mail and attach my resume (noting towards the end of the cover letter that it’s attached), and I’ve never had a problem. I’ve heard of some people attaching both, but I’m not sure what you would write in the actual body of the e-mail in that case—a cover cover letter?

actually...

I have spoken with several Condé Naste editors who all say cover letters in an opening e-mail is not a good idea. They don’t want to read all of that. They are more interested in the point of the e-mail and when they have time they will look over the cover letter and resume. That’s what I do. I usually request someone’s time in the e-mail and tell a short bit about myself and refer to my res.

Hope that helps!

that sounds good, i usually

that sounds good, i usually write a little message then attach both but putting the cover letter in the body of the email sounds better. Thanx
