it’s between 30-50/hr based on experience and budgets of the employer. mags are usually 40/hr and book publishers are generally a little more. 30/hr is for newbies.

how do you get into photo

how do you get into photo researching??

You need a photography

You need a photography background, I suggest getting a entry level job, or internship if possible for a book publisher and or magazine, to learn the skills and contacts, of the the industry.

yeah, most photo researchers

yeah, most photo researchers are ex-photo eds who want to freelance since they want a more flexible schedule. most of the experienced ones have years of experience and tons of contacts. breaking into the industry is tough, but if you have internship experience and have been a photo assistant for a couple years, you should definitely apply for research positions. smaller publishers with tiny budgets will hire someone with little experience. it is just a departure from the photo ed route since it’s research instead of production, but it’s fulfilling for many people i know and short and long term gigs pop up all the time.
