Teen vogue or Elle magazine internships

Im really interested in taking a gap year before going to uni and studying fashion marketing. However, I would love to have the opportunity to intern at either teen vogue or elle magazine for a year or even a few months. Although I’m not sure how to come about this especically as I live in the UK. Luckily I have family that live in New York therefore accommodation isnt such an issue. Therefore if anyone knows any information on internships I would love to know!

Elle Magazine.

I’m a fashion design major at the Art Institute of Dallas, and after I graduate I really would love to intern at Elle. It’s my favorite magazine in the world, overall, I think it’s probably the best magazine! I was wondering if someone could tell me as to how I would go about that. If there are any Elle Magazine interns in this thread, please give me some insight, because it would be greatly appreciate it!

Follow up to my previous post re:immigration/internships

There might be British interns currently working at Teen Vogue but as you said it’s apart of they are here as apart of work experience which is required for students to do at some British universities. If I had to guess, they are students from Central St. Martins who are here for the semester as apart of study abroad and are probably taking a class or so or are receiving academic credit for their internships and are here on a student visa. If you come to the US just to pursue unpaid work at the age of 18, I doubt that you will get a visa. The best thing to do is to enroll in some sort of a program at FIT or even a community college as you need a visa in order to stay in the United States for longer than three months. If you are caught over staying your visit here in the States, you can be banned from entering the country for up to ten years. Seriously, before getting in touch with the internship coordinator, get in touch with the Consular Officer at the US Embassy in London and explain to them that you are interested in doing a Gap year internship at a publication in the US and see what they say.

immigration

tkette is right: immigration will definitely be something to consider. Is there time for you to organise a placement at Elle in London or Vogue in London? Maybe getting a weeks worth first at Elle or Vogue could help you when you approach the US versions.

Teen Vogue

I’m a fashion closet intern at Teen Vogue and there’s a Brit doing the internship equivalent to a junior year abroad from uni, who will be interning at Teen Vogue for six months, so it is possible.

Blake English coordinates the fashion closet interns at Teen Vogue. Shoot her an email (first name_last name@condenast.com) and send your resume.

Internships here in the

Internships here in the States are formatted a bit differently than they are in the UK (before I graduated I did internships in both the UK and in the US and am currently working in the US). Magazines at American magazines tend to last for a semester or even a year in comparison to work experience positions which are usually no longer than a couple of weeks (depending on the publication)
I think that the best way for you to get an internship here in the States would to be to register with a local university and take a couple of classes on a part-time basis (I’m assuming that you are interested in fashion so maybe take a class or two each semester at FIT) and then look into your internship options from there.
Do you have dual citizenship between the US/UK or are you a UK resident? If you do not have dual citizenship, then you would need to get a work permit and get a company to sponsor you and I imagine that most companies would not be willing to do that for an intern but if you were to enroll in a uni here and pursue the internship for credit then I think that you would be in the clear.
