Im a brit, I live in London and 4 my placement year I m looking to move to NY 4 6 months from jan 09 - june! Any help please with the following:
1/ Apartments, in a good central location, but as its a spring internship university campuses are out`!
2/Roommates, where is it safe 2 look 4 ppl.
3/What visa would i need if all work is unpaid?

Maybe BUNAC or its equivalent?
Hi! I’m not sure if you’ve heard about a program called BUNAC, US students can use it to work abroad for up to 6 months. I just wondered that maybe if you contact them if they could help you find the equivalent program for coming to the States. I had a friend that used BUNAC for her internship and it worked out great, they dealt with all the visa work, etc. And they arrange for cheaper housing until you can find something. I would recommend emailing that program and see if they can link you with someone doing the same for British students. Just a thought!

You should get in touch with the Consular Officer at the US Embassy in London to figure out which type of visa you would be eligible for in order to do unpaid work.
It is illegal for you to just come here for six months for work, paid or unpaid and you could get banned from entering the country if you are caught doing this.

Before you start looking for housing, you need to look and see if you are even eligible for a work visa to enter the country.
Have you thought about doing a study abroad type of program with FIT or NYU and then doing an internship that way?

Oh…Thanks for the advice, I will definitely get in contact with them.
Unfortunately the university demand that i can only do a study abroad with colleges that the university have links with- but there not the universities i want to go to. Hence if i was to go to NYU it is unlikely that i\ll be able to study and do a placement all in 6 months as i already have confirmed placements in london for elle and alberta ferretti! Also i won’t be subsided at all, but I’ll do some research on both colleges.
Is it not a good idea to rent a 1 bed apartment in ny by my self and instead go through a university?
