Question for those who write for their local newspapers and magazines. When do you find listing for events in the cities for the next 2-3 months? I am located in Philadelphia and am looking to cover local events in the next few months. Sites like AOL City guides and About.com don’t really have anything “unique”. Any ideas?
Generally, one can check
Generally, one can check your local alternative weekly paper for things like concert listings and arts festivals, and the event calendars for any major venues in your city—for instance, the Wachovia Center will have a full calendar of their next few months, as will all museums, operas, symphonies, and other cultural centers which have to plan things far in advance. Since you’re in a relatively big city, there will also be multiple online guides to Philly events (if you’re smart enough to be able to spell the city name, you should be able to google these) and there will also be a dedicated tourism board website to promote tourism in your city that will have events. Also Time Out magazines and equivalents are good starting places for things that are more offbeat, since they get a lot of submissions from individuals and smaller organizations.
