Hey guys, I’m hoping some of you will have a good idea about where I can find listings of magazines outside the New York area. I’m interested in LA and Chicago, but really haven’t found too much in the way of magazines…and I could be looking in the wrong places.
I’m great with finding book publishers, but magazines, not so much. I was in New York for a couple weeks interviewing at large pub houses but I really don’t think I ultimately want to end up there, so I’m checking out the other big cities. I do have magazine experience (I helped create and launch an online fashion mag) so I’ve always considered both book and magazine publishing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

dkramer,
I emailed you about BA. Check your gmail.
Chicago Magazines
I lived in Chicago over the summer, and did a lot of magazine hunting prior to moving there. Here are my findings:
Chicago magazine, Chicago Home, Today’s Chicago Woman, Modern Luxury, UR Chicago, Chicago Scene, Complete Woman, Satisfaction, North Shore Monthly, Chicago Reader, Chicago Life, Chicagoland Tails, Conscious Choice, Windy City Sports, Illinois Entertainer, Booklist, Where Chicago, Talcott Communications, Antiques & Collecting, Time Out Chicago, Newcity Chicago, Venus Zine, Chicago Reporter, Chicago Bride, and Redwood Custom Publishing. There’s also a new one called Michigan Ave that’s debuting in April 2008.
Good luck!
Here’s a list of some
Here’s a list of some other L.A. mags:
944
C Magazine
Angeleno
Hollywood Life
Hollywood Reporter
West magazine (L.A. Times)
I hope the list helps. Good luck with everything! :)
LA
I know Conde’ Nast is in LA. Bon App and Arch Digest have their full offices there (editorial staff on those 2 pubs is based there) and also satellite offices for all the other pubs. Variety, LA Confidential and LA Mag are out there as well. HR email for Conde Nast: Laura_Hodges@condenast.com. I used to work at BA. Everyone is nice and laidback. Good luck.
