Is it possible to go from Web to Print?

I’m in the running for a few really good web EA positions since most of my internship experience has been on the web. However, if I ever decide to get into print, would the transition be hard? Am I going to be stuck to the web or are the skills I’m going to pick up as a web EA going to be transferrable as a print editor? All the jobs I’ve been interviewing for are for major magazines’s websites.

honestly, I interned for a .com connected to a mag and now am v. much on midlevel print editorial …I think the good thing about websites is they do offer more flexibility in terms of freelance opps … so that is what I would look for … if you become an EA at a website but then have 2-4 heavy mag print clips and can show how your experience MORE prepares you for print (ie, you know how to do tight deadlines, etc) then you have the best of both worlds. And use the .com as leverage when you explore freelance opps …

I definitely know what you mean. I’m in the same boat as you. So far, all the jobs I’ve been offered are for online publications. I think you do pick up a lot of valuable skills, but I’m not sure how the transition will be. I’m trying to break into print so I’m curious to know what people think too.
