Baltimore

Times are tough, but all the more reason to network!

Baltimore Ed2010 Events

April Event:
We’re going to have the event at Three in Patterson Park (2901 E. Baltimore St.) on Thursday, April 23. It’s on the corner of Baltimore St. and Linwood Ave. and has great happy hour deals and delicious sandwiches and small plates. We’ll be meeting there from 6-8 p.m. and enjoying their awesome drink specials. Please feel free to invite freelancers, interns, whoever. This is definitely not a you-have-to-drink environment and we really welcome anyone to come who wants to network. If you have any questions, please send me an email at jessblumberg@gmail.com.

Hope to see you all there!

February Event:
Consider it a St. Patrick’s Day preview! Our February happy hour will be at Dougherty’s Pub in Mt. Vernon. They have offered us their happy hour prices (see below) from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 19. They also have really cheap, yummy bar food if you’re so inclined.

Dougherty’s is located at 223 W. Chase Street and parking can usually be found on the street nearby. Though there’s also a lot at the Rite Aid across the street.

I’m hoping this could be a general meet-and-greet, so bring any kind of business cards or contact info you have. Also, we are doing a “magazine swap,” where you bring copies of the mags you work for, write for, or would LOVE to work for.

As always, if you have any questions, please let me know.

Hope to see you all there!

  • Jess Blumberg is currently the associate editor at Baltimore magazine. She graduated from the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism in 2007. She had various internships throughout college, including The Baltimore Sun, The Daily Record, an ASME internship at Inc. magazine and a previous internship at her current publication. Right after she graduated, she found out about a writing internship at Smithsonian magazine through WhisperJobs and did that for seven months before returning to her hometown of Baltimore.

The ever-changing landscape of Baltimore's media

Baltimore Media News

What’s going on in Baltimore’s media scene?

Obviously, the recent closing of the Baltimore Examiner has been one of the more jarring headlines in media news. The short-lived paper had a lot of talented reporters and editors on its staff, so we were very sorry to see it go. Read about it here.

About Us

Ed2010 is a networking and mentoring organization committed to helping aspiring and junior-level editors reach their dream magazine jobs. We now have chapters in more than 20 cities across the U.S., Canada, and in the UK—plus our ever-growing family of college campus chapters.

Sadly, Baltimore’s became defunct. So that’s where we come in. I think it’s important to spread the Ed love to Baltimore, which I know has a thriving magazine community of editors, writers and freelancers. And since we’re a smaller market city, it makes sense for us to get together for a happy hour every once in a while. If for no other reason than an excuse to drink!
