Boston Ed Takes Manhattan

Boston Ed visits NYC

On October 12th, Ed’s Boston chapter took a field trip—the first of its kind in Ed history—for a whirlwind afternoon of visiting the Hearst Tower and meeting with editors from magazines like Marie Claire, Good Housekeeping, and Redbook. The trip was the brainchild of Boston City Chapter hostess Courtney McClellan, an assistant editor at the Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics. “I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of people who showed interest in visiting,” says McClellan, who was joined by a diverse group of 10 Edsters, including freelancers, students, interns, and edit staff.

The event began with an informal lunch at the Hearst cafeteria, where the Bostonians mingled with New York Edsters and got to meet Ed founder and president, Chandra Turner, followed by a roundtable discussion with Marie Claire’s Senior Web Editor, Ashley Parrish, a tour of Good Housekeeping’s research institute with associate editor Amy Roberts (“It was so cool to go behind the scenes and see where they actually do their testing,” says McClellan), and a walk through Redbook’s offices with Anna Davies, an assistant editor there and Ed’s Deputy City Chapters Director.

Ed would love more city chapters to arrange tours! If you’re interested, e-mail your city chapter host, Ed’s City Chapters Director, Emily Hendricks Turnier (emily@ed2010.com), or the Deputy City Chapters Director Anna Davies (anna@ed2010.com). Ed guarantees a New York publishing field trip will blow any memories of your fourth grade visit to the science museum out of the water!
