Whisper Jobs FAQ

Before you Ask Ed a question about a Whisper job posting, check out these frequently asked questions on the topic!

Q: How much does it cost to submit a Whisper job post?
A: Not a thing! Ed’s cool like that. So please be patient. Ed’s run entirely by volunteers, including the hard-working nice folks who post Whisper jobs and internships every day.

Q: How do I submit a Whisper job post?
A: Fill out our Whisper jobs form. Or you can e-mail your listing to whispers@ed2010.com

Q: What should my Whisper job posting look like?
A: Like this:
“Tk magazine, in tk city is looking for tk [paid, unpaid, full-time, part-time, or freelance] position. Brief description of responsibilities. Brief description of required skills/experience. How to apply. Who to apply to. [whether or not it’s OK for candidates to mention Ed]” See examples on the Whisper jobs page

No bullet-points, new paragraphs, or skipped lines. Just 1,000 characters or less of flowing text. If you go over, or don’t follow Ed’s formatting rules, he’ll edit to make it work.

Q: When and where will my Whisper job posting be posted?
A: If it’s a full-time job, the ad will be posted on the Whisper jobs page of Ed2010.com 1-2 business days after you send it in. Ed does it all manually, people, so give him a chance! (And for free!)

If the ad’s for an internship, it’ll appear on the Ed on Campus internships page 1-2 business days after you submit it.

Only select jobs will be posted in the daily newsletter, but there will always be links to the listings in the newsletter.

Q: Do you post ads for non-editorial jobs?
A: In short, no. Ed’s all about edit (hence the name), so he’s unable to post listings that aren’t for editorial positions at magazines and Web sites. So please don’t send him book, PR, non-mag jobs in photography and fashion, advertising, marketing, circulation, video, and TV posts.

Q: How do I get a Whisper job posting taken down?
A: Shoot a request e-mail to whispers@ed2010.com. The post will be removed from Ed2010.com in 1-2 business days, but if it takes a little longer, feel free to bug Ed at the whispers e-mail again.

Q: How do I apply to a job posting when the e-mail address doesn’t work/isn’t given?
A: Use your reporting skills to find the correct address! Also, make sure you’re not copying punctuation that followed the address in the listing. Ed always posts as much info as he knows, so if he doesn’t have it, he can’t give it to you!

Q: How do I know where the position is located if no location is given in the Whisper?
A: Ed hates to be a broken record, but use your reporting skills to find out the location! Ed always posts as much info as he knows, so if he doesn’t have it, he can’t give it to you!

Q: I sent in my post days ago, and it’s still not up! What should I do?
A: E-mail whispers@ed2010.com with the post again and (nicely) tell Ed when you first submitted it.

Q: I haven’t gotten many candidates for my Whisper job post. Can I resubmit it?
A: Sure! Ed just likes to leave a week or two between repeat postings.

Q: Can I receive a confirmation when my Whisper job posting has been posted on Ed2010.com?
A: Ed pinky swears that he’ll post every Whisper job he receives in 1-2 business days (as long as your posting fits Ed’s criteria; see above). So if you don’t get an e-mail bounceback when you submit your post, your ad will make it onto our site! In other words, no, Ed doesn’t send confirmation e-mails. Check the site 2 business days after submitting your post, and if you can’t find it after looking in the Whisper jobs page, if it’s a job, or in Ed on Campus internships page if it’s an internship, shoot an e-mail to whispers@ed2010.com

Q: How do I make changes to a job post I’ve already submitted?
A: Shoot an e-mail to whispers@ed2010.com with the revised post and the date you sent in the original post and Ed’ll make your requested changes in 1-2 business days.

Q: I have a question that’s not covered here. What do I do?
A: E-mail your question (if it’s about posting a job or responding to job postings) to whispers@ed2010.com. For other inquiries, e-mail asked@ed2010.com.
