Host or President Name:
Courtney McClellan
Bio:
Courtney graduated from Boston University with a degree in psychology, but it was while working in advertising for her school's newspaper that she had a major realization: she wants to be a magazine editor! Even though she didn't have the journalism degree or magazine experience, she landed an opportunity after graduation to launch an online magazine, Chain Reaction, for a girls' fashion company. A big project, but very very exciting! (Sadly, it was a start-up company and no longer exists at this time.) Courtney was the editor but also got to do graphic design and photography, so she learned a lot about putting together a magazine. During this time, she interned for two local magazines, the Improper Bostonian and Scene. Each taught Courtney a little more about the magazine world and introduced her to essential magazine skills such as fact-checking and copy editing. These experiences combined paved the path to her current position as the assistant editor of the Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics. She's grateful for this opportunity to get to edit all day long and for her great mentor-friend boss. At night, Courtney is working towards completing a certificate in magazine publishing at B.U. where she's learned about the business side of magazines. In her free time, Courtney enjoys reading (she's in a chick lit book club!), travelling, cooking, watching movies from Netflix, shopping....Her one piece of advice she'd like to pass on to all other Edsters? "If the ocean is your goal, then it doesn't matter which river you take." Say hi to her at boston@ed2010.com.
