“Instead of trying to connect with an EIC, try connecting with the senior editors—make yourself memorable to them. Can you get things done quickly and well? Do you complain? Demonstrate extreme commitment, show enterprise, make things happen—get someone on the phone that no one else can get. The people who succeed are the ones who think nothing is beneath them. Show that you have initiative to contribute to something. Be useful to assistants on deadline. Do all the writing, reporting and take incredible initiative. If it’s a late night, stay till the bitter end. Go around and ask if anyone needs help.” — Janice Min, Editor in Chief, Us Weekly
