Even in middle school when Wendy wrote pressing stories about school lunches, or in high school when she wrote and served as a photo editor for her publication, Hi-Times, she knew she wanted journalism to become part of her life. Skip ahead to graduating in magazine journalism from the University of Oregon in 2004, skim by the three journalism internships and 300+ resumes she churned out applying to various jobs, pass over the freelance work in writing, photography and editing—including a start-up Eugene music magazine, Synergy, and enter present day. She is the editor for three trade magazines covering decorative concrete, traditional masonry and drywall—not as glamorous as all the journalism-employed, 20-something girls in the books and movies that have been popular for the past few years—but a magazine job nevertheless. And, it gets her that much closer to reaching magazine editor stardom by the year 2010.
