Melanie, who originally hails from Cleveland, graduated from Indiana University with a degree in English and journalism in May of 1999. Building on her collegiate newspaper and book publishing internships, she made the move to Chicago where she landed her first job as an editorial assistant at Beanie Baby magazine. After climbing the corporate ladder of cuteness from editing the beanie buyer’s guide to working on a Teddy Bear magazine, she had the opportunity to be on the launch team for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s magazine, mary-kateandashley. It was on one of her many glamorous jaunts to Los Angeles (hanging with the twins and enjoying that huge, glossy budget) that Melanie’s senior editor put her in touch with Ed2010’s founder, Chandra Turner, and the Chicago chapter was born. Unfortunately, mary-kateandashley fell victim to the sucky economy, but Melanie moved on to enjoy schmoozing and fabulous cuisine as the senior editor of Chef magazine, a national food trade. She moved to Louisville in early 2005, where she is freelancing full-time. Shoot her an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
